The explosion happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday at 10 Deepwood Lane, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.
All the windows and doors were blown off the house, the department said. The two occupants home at the time were able to escape because they were upstairs and there was a window cracked.
When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy smoke and fire showing from the basement and garage area, the department added.
Three engines and two trucks responded and brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.
The fire is under investigation and the house is posted unfit for occupancy due to heavy smoke and water damage, in addition to the blown windows and doors.Click here to follow Daily Voice Trumbull-Monroe and receive free news updates.
